1. An observation on the use of Chert and their distribution in prehistoric Sites of Tang River Valley in west Odisha, India

This article by Sudan Deep studies the pattern of the use of Chert, an important raw material of prehistoric man for tool production during late Pleistocene to Holocene period. The availability of chert as a raw material over the landscape was of great help to them as it played a significant role in tool manufacturing as well as shaping the lithic assemblage. This paper discusses the use of chert in the microlithic settlements of Tang river valley and their probable source in the adjacent area. As the valley has a wonderful landscape of hills, rock shelters and chain of hillocks, the early man could easily procure lithic materials, particularly better quality of chert, from its local environment. Use of chert in the microlithic settlements for tool manufacturing also give us some valuable insight into site use and social organization of hunter-gatherer in this valley through time.

2. Comparing Economy of Bronze Age Erlitou district Yanshi, Henan, China & Harappa district Sahiwal, Punjab, Pakistan: An Archaeological Observation

This article by Qian Wang & Anil K. Pokharia shows that Harappans had city states & no political control on trade and Erlitou had territorial states & complete control on raw material & production. Both the cities practiced multi-cropping and exhibited the tendency of changing the cropping pattern which changed the environment. The political organization of these city can be termed as city-states and territorial states. The first city had a great economy with no political control, whereas at second city, the government controlled both the local procurement of valuable raw materials and the production. The political environment in first city encouraged external trade and expansion, whereas in the second city, the environment was conservative

3. Copper Hoard Weapons & Implements kept at State Museum Lucknow

This article by Anand Kumar Singh gives the catalogue of 90 copper hoards antiquities, mostly from Uttar Pradesh and two from Jharkhand. This collection has 41 flat celts, 20 shouldered axes, 9 harpoons, 9 chisels, 4 short swords, 3 bar celts, 2 anthropomorphic figures, 1 ingot and 1 dagger. The two types of axes namely flat celt and shouldered axe are represented in the collection. A rare double axe (Acc. No. G-25) is also displayed in this collection

4. Early Historic Culture of Sundar River Valley, Odisha

The present paper by Mr. Kshyeera Sagara Rana and Dr. Nalinikanta Rana presents the result of recently field exploration on Sundar river valley to understand the Cultural deposit of Asurgarh- Narla, Nehena and Kharligarh, which resulted in the discovery of 11 sites belonging to early historic and historic periods. The paper does a comparative study of the ceramic assemblages of early historic cultures

5. A Note on Early Historic Fortified Settlement of Jamsaragarh in Sundargarh District, Odisha

This article by Sakir Hussain gives the details about the site of Jamsaragarh. It has yielded dishes & bowls of Black & Red ware, bowls of dull Red slipped ware, handis of Red slipped ware, vases of Black slipped ware, basins of Red ware and miscellaneous potteries of Grey ware. Terracotta toys mostly bull, horse and elephant are found here. The Iron objects collected from this site comprise fragments of nails and pieces of unidentifiable objects. Four legged and two legged saddle-querns are also found here. The Terracotta Beads of globular and cylindrical shapes are also reported from this site

6. The All Embracing Indian Ethos: Reflections on Gupta Art

This article by J. Manuel and Rajendra Yadav says that Gupta culture brought about synthesis of the past art forms. Gupta art assimilated art forms belonging to OCP, Mauryan, Shunga, western Kshatrapa, Shaka, Kushan, Gandhar, Sanchi, Amravati, Nagarjunakonda and western world. These influences come down from proto-historic Indian cultures, foreign lands and various Indian regional art centers. For example they borrowed akimbo posture from OCP culture. They adopted Buddha and Gaja lakshmi from Buddhist art of Shunga & Kushan period. They copied the concept of planets, weekdays, solar & lunar zodiacs and the lyre from the western world.

7. Catalogue of Antiquities of State Museum, Lucknow: Part- II: Antiquities dateable from 3rd century B.C. to 9th-10th century A.D

This article by Vijay Kumar gives the catalogue of stone sculptures dateable from 3rd century B.C. to 9th-10th century A.D., presently kept in State Museum Lucknow U.P. The introductory part of this article gives the details of the evolution of simhasana and different animal mounts of the deities. It also discusses the earliest occurrence of these in the world. The catalogue has been given century wise and within a time period, it presents the list of antiquities belonging to different religious sects.

8. Gol-Gumbaz Geometrics for Hemispherical Domes for any Number of Echoes

This article by K. V. Pramod, P. M. Munnoli and Prasanna P. N gives the details about the Gol-Gumbaz. It is a unique structure where sound echoes for seven times. This happens because of the carefully designed internal diameter of the dome and the materials used for its construction. Calculations shown herein indicate that the Architect had a clear knowledge of the speed of sound. The same method can be used to design a hemispherical dome to produce any given number of echoes. Sample calculations for the dome to produce 30 echoes even which is 157.41m.
